What is vExpert and why you should become one?

Engaging with exceptional products and solutions goes beyond the realm of technology; it extends to the invaluable human element. In my earnest belief, the people associated with a company, solution, or product constitute its most significant asset.

Considering the widespread use of VMware products, coupled with the  advocacy for its technology and appreciation for the company’s innovative spirit, the individuals within the VMware community emerge as its most treasured asset. The vExpert program, perhaps not familiar to all, stands as a transformative opportunity capable of profoundly impacting both personal and professional aspects of one’s life.

I started my journey 10 years ago with VMware products, and it’s been cool to see how the technology has grown and how different products now work together. It’s been a satisfying journey. And hey, the vExpert program coming into play has really added something special to the whole vibe at VMware.

The vExpert thing from VMware isn’t just some technical certificate—it’s more like a big thumbs up for all the different ways you help out in the community. Whether you’re doing different activities, spending your time on things, or being a mentor, it’s all part of what they recognize. The vExpert program is like a stage where everyone in the community can see and give you a high-five for all the cool stuff you’re doing.

Even if you usually find joy in your work without needing others to say you’re doing great, the vExpert program is like a special way for the community to say, “Hey, we see and appreciate what you’re doing!”

And it’s not just about getting a pat on the back. The vExpert program is like a super cool club where people who love what they do can connect. It’s a way to say, “You’re awesome for being so dedicated,” and it creates a space where passion and skills come together.

In simple terms, the vExpert program is like a big shout-out to the people who make the tech community better—a way to celebrate all the cool things everyone brings to the table at VMware.

Curious about becoming a vExpert?

It’s simpler than you might think. When I first applied as a blogger writing on my VIRTUALINCA blog, I was worried it would be a complicated process, but it turned out to be straightforward. You just submit your supporting documents through a basic web form, and then your application goes through a review.

The application process open year-round, but they only review them twice per year. Prior to evaluating applications, they initiate the application submission phase. This typically spans 30 days and is the opportune moment to complete your application. Pretend they are unfamiliar with your background and accomplishments, ensuring that all pertinent details are included. Highlight every community-related aspect comprehensively.

There are two submission periods: The second one is an opportunity for those who missed the initial application or didn’t receive the award during the first round. This allows individuals another chance to bolster their community activities and reapply, rather than waiting for a year.

In December, there is a submission period that concludes in mid-January. During this time, you have the opportunity to finalize your application before the submission deadline. Once the submission period concludes, applications are locked and commence the voting process for your contributions from the previous year. Voting lasts for a few weeks until we unveil the vExpert award recipients. All applicants receive a decision via email.
